The Clock is Ticking!

Okay folks! The day that Jeff and I have been talking about for the last couple months has finally arrived, all our bags are packed and it’s time to go! By the time you read this we will have started our journey West. We are up early and ready to drive down I-88 West to Moline, IL. The road trip has officially begun!

Our Preparations:
Thursday was a nose to the grindstone work day. Well, after we had breakfast with my grandparents and ran a couple quick errands. I needed to spend a gift certificate at DSW and Jeff needed any excuse to go back to Fry’s Electronics. Turns out the keys on the laptop were made for much smaller hands and he was sick of “accidentally” deleting every blog entry multiple times!!

Many of you know of our “bet” regarding this move. And for those of you that don’t let me inform you! Jeff readily will admit to a fondness of the tv show, CHIPS and his favorite character, Ponch aka Erik Estrada. It’s an addiction that dates back to his childhood in Michigan and a nickname he’s carried throughout adulthood. Well those blog readers that have known Jeff a long time also know of his Ponch collectibles, one of which includes a 12x24 framed picture of the actor in his full CHIPS uniform and how it has resided in multiple bedrooms of Jeff Osborn and currently claims residence in 634 La Corso. Those of you not familiar with Erik visit www.erikestrada.com and you will soon know why I had to step up the motivation in this bet.

The bet: If Jamie can get all her remaining belongings into her Honda Civic with enough room for Jeff and his bags and a comfortable ride back to their west coast home then Erik Estrada finds a new permanent home. If she fails, Erik stays and remains a constant fixture to their new “blended bedroom”. Erik Estrada poster, does it stay or go?

The outcome: Check out these photos from our afternoon of packing up the car and decide for yourself…. Never mess with a stubborn Taurus who has her mind set about the décor of her new home!

After a grueling day of packing, we decided to celebrate our final night in Wheaton in style. Mexican and Margaritas!! We took Denise and Marty (Jamie’s aunt and uncle) out for a fabulous dinner at Cozymel’s. It was a thank you dinner, for letting Jamie call your house “home” for the last 9 months and for always welcoming Jeff each and every visit to the Midwest. You guys are not only family, you’re friends! We will miss you too Sydney, the wonder dog – she doesn’t do Mexican food!

Thanks for checking up on us. We’ll have more real soon!

Hey kids! Jamie, you said Moline not East Moline. HA! I am not the only one who does that then! Glad to hear everything fit into the car - sorry Jeff. I must admit you do not look too unhappy about getting it all in. Glad you had a nice time with Denise and the crazy man Marty. Ain't it great to have THREE sets of parents?!?!?!?!

love to you both and drive safely,

Mom and George

Dear Mom O

I am enjoying reading your comments to the kids. Jamie has told me how very welcoming your family has been to her. Thank you so much for your kindness to my girl. I look forward to meeting you someday. The kids have told us we cannot visit until they have their own place, however.

Jeff is a wonderful young man and we enjoyed having him visit last week.

Best regards,

Ginnie Leiner (Jamie's mom)

Uncle Jeff and Jamie:

I'm glad to hear you are safely on your way west. I'm looking forward to seeing both of you soon. I really dig that bandanna, Uncle Jeff. Maybe they make baby sized ones so I can keep my suddenly mop-like hairdo in check.

Osborn family - I echo my sister's comments . . . it's been wonderful getting to know Jeff over the past several months. He's a great guy and Marty and I are excited about their future. Looking forward to the opportunity to meet you all sometime in the future. Remember if you're ever in the Chicagoland area, the "Jamie Allmendinger suite" is now available for overnight guests! Take care of our girl!
