Fun in a steel town

It is Monday morning and we have been staying with Jamie's mom (Ginnie) and her husband George. We arrived on Saturday from Chicago and will be leaving the night of the All-Star game here in Pittsburgh (Tuesday). Last night Jamie and I went with her Mom, George, and her Grandma Ramona to a drive-in theather that was absolutely packed on a Sunday night! Kids and adults were lined up in rows spread out all over the area. Kids were playing football and other games before it was dark, pizza and all sorts of other snack food were smuggled in from outside the theater (just one of many rules posted at the drive-in). Here is a link to the drive-in's cheezy website complete with 50's style advertisments http://www.evergreendrivein.com/ .... oh yeah, we were watching the new Pirates movie with Johnny Depp.

My Favorite part of the visit was yesterday afternoon when we visited Jamie's mom at her work, the Compass Inn http://www.compassinn.com/ It was a wagon stop and you could see how these people lived/survived and what they valued. It was a great place to learn about history, if you go on the right weekend, there is living history with lots of people demonstrating how people lived in the 19th century. We got the 'behind the scenes' tour and it was AWESOME. Very cool stuff, especially for a history teacher.

On our way to the Compass Inn, George took us by his campus. He is the Philosophy Department Chair at St. Vincent College, 'America's First Benedictine College' (see website) it has a beautiful campus; landscape and architecture http://www.stvincent.edu/general_info6

Today, we are lazily getting out of bed and seeing what everyone wants to do today. if you are still reading this.. WOW, Jamie and I might get ambitious enough to post some pics from yesterday. Adios! -Jeff

Oh my gosh, you guys are so adorable! And such dedicated bloggers! I was so excited to arrive at work this morning and have something new to read on your page. Checking friends websites daily has become a very important part of my work day (don't tell my boss!) :) Well it looks like you guys are having a great trip so far - keep up the good work and get here safe and sound. Like Momma O says, it's a good thing you're not alone this time around Jeff, and yes, please don't talk to strangers ;)
