Winner-Winner Mexican Dinner

Good Morning Bloggers!!!

Today, we are waking up in the fabulous Sands Regency Resort and Casio, Reno, NV. Just one block off ‘the strip’ and are enjoying the sweet smell of victory. You may be asking yourself, how did we become victorious? Well, there were many battles along the way. Unfortunately for the sake of the blog, not much was documented with photos, so there are not many pics, just rambling stories. Also, check out today’s fun survey/game at the bottom. FYI - some pics will be added later today!

Yesterday’s first victory came early, just 20 minutes after we left Moab. You will see the picture to the left of an odometer, it reads ’75,000.’ Yes, the 2002 Honda Civic that Jamie, family, and her friends refer to as “Molly” just passed a large milestone on the road out of Moab, Ut. Congratulations Molly! You’re doing great, just about 4 more hours down a hill and we’ll be home. Molly made it through some more mountainous passes yesterday, and guess who drove… Jamie!!! Oh, yeah, she started to conquer her fear of those roads that aren’t as flat as she is used to. She did a great job up and down for 100’s of miles of hills. We switched driving roles a few times, each time she got stuck with the elevation gains and descents. Sorry Jamie.

Another Victory came this morning, but was inspired by yesterday’s 12 hour adventure in the car. We drove over 800 miles from Moab -> Reno. We took 70, 50, 15, and 80. For over 100 of those miles, I just couldn’t get tacos off my mind, I wouldn’t shut up about it either. We had fantastic tacos back in Iowa at a place called Taco John’s… It ROCKED!!! I suggest getting the meal deal and the PotatoOle’s- Fantastico! A few years back, my friends Erik Kevin, and I found a place called Taco Time on our little road trip in ’02... Yesterday, we found neither and had to go to Taco Bell L but today we rise victoriously again and with the help of our little friend ‘the internet’ we are going to get better tacos today! Check out http://www.tacojohns.com and http://www.tacotime.com/ for exact locations near you…

here are a couple that may interest our readers

Taco John’s-

3 in W. DesMoines, IA

2 in Davenport, IA

Moline, IL

Rockford, IL

Texas has a few at military locations (Ft. Hood, Lackland, Dyess) good luck Becky!

0 in PA- BOO!!!

0 in CA- let’s write to Congress!!!

1 in Reno, NV J

Taco Time-

Ames & Cedar Rapids, IA

Shaumburg, IL

Redding, CA.. (monster truck rally Oct 06?!?!?!)

Missoula, MT

Altoona, PA (only one in PA)

Ecorse, MI (I don’t know where that is?)

Plano & Rhome, TX (close to Dallas?)

Tokyo, Japan (for our readers in the Land of the Rising Sun)

Reno, NV J

As you can see, each of these sweet taco places have locations in Reno, I am looking forward to the day we have here in “The Biggest Little City in the World” – with AWESOME taco joints!

So, with getting so close to home, driving new terrain (for 12 hours), and surviving a trip to Taco Bell; we decided to go out on the town last night. We came up winners there too! Jamie is not a gambler, but we needed to get out of the room and walk. Casinos are the only place to walk around here in the evening when we arrived, so off to the penny slots!!! Jamie came up big at the penny slots and got us enough for our taco adventures today J seriously, she did, from penny slots! Then the $2 craps table called my name and the Cal-Neva Hotel and Casino where everyone is a winner- or at least me and my beautiful dice roller :) we came back to the Sands and enjoyed a late night quesadilla at Mel’s Diner.

And now, for the fun game I promised. There are 50 states in this country, please guess how many different license plates we saw from East Moline, IL to Walnut Creek, CA. We still have more freeway to go and will give the final answer on the day we arrive in the ‘WC’ … What’s your guess?

Does this count include when you got lost and headed east for a couple of days? Or just the journey westward?

And are you asking how many different license plates, or from how many different states?! Come on Jeff, you're a teacher--be SPECIFIC!!! Cuz man, I hope every car had a different plate or else SOMEONE'S in trouble!!! hahah :-)

On the taco note--yes, Plano is right up the road and Rhome not too far off to the West. But if you want good tacos, you gotta come down here! The closer you get to the border, the better they are!

Happy travels you two!!

You got lost? hehe, whoops!

and Jeff -- have you had Adolph's in East Moline? THAT is my favorite place for tacos. yum yum. jamie and i have frequented that place often.

And my guess is 18 different states were represented. Is this like the Price is Right, where if you go over, you lose??

I better get my guess in fast! Since it's vacation season (although how many families can afford gas now?) I'm going high with a guess of 23 different states! Please keep in mind that your family and friends may demand an audit of your records - so watch out!

Once again reading your blog is making me hungry . . . maybe tacos for dinner tonight!

Miss you guys! Haven't bought 2% milk or soy milk at the grocery store for awhile now and it's making me sad.

Denise said we, her co-workers / friends, couldn't play the license plate game because we've never met you (although I suspect it was secretly that she didn't want anybody to find out what kind of weirdos she works with, nor that she had given out your blog URL to said weirdos).

We poo-poo'd her objections, and reminded her that the internet just makes us one big, global community. I believe our actual words were "Oh yeah? Up yours, Hauser!".

So, having firmly established our eligibility, my guess is: 29.

Well, since Mommy, Daddy and I saw approx 40 different license plates on our trip from San Ramon, CA to Phoenix, AZ our guess is 40. Are you including Mexican states or Canadian provinces? If so, add 6 or 7 to our estimate! :=)

See you both real soon!

I gotta go with my daughter's guess of 40 (ok, it was really my guess)

Anyhow, J&J, you should check out Tom Petty's new album which just came out today, called 'Highway Companion'. I like it. And it's appropriately titled for your trip home.

Of course Ed (one of my random co-workers) didn't mention that I offered to buy them a prize if they won. Ed you made the big time with a mention in the blog! You'll be receiving your release contract in the mail shortly.
